Everyone is so focused on branding nowadays and while that is obviously important, I like to focus on the music.Joel Zimmerman is the man behind the Deadmau5 mask. Rezz has also said something along the lines of ‘people always say it's all about who you know, but if you do the right things, you'll meet the right people.’ I think both of those ideologies work hand in hand. One of my favorite quotes/ideologies from Joel is to let the music speak for itself.
I knew that I could do this and reach their level eventually if I worked hard enough. When I was researching electronic artists I liked, I discovered a lot of them had no classical training. I come from a classical piano background. I have the personality type where if I discover something that really interests me, I get very competitive to perfect and improve upon my skills. Listening to their tracks, I would wonder how they did that and how did they get that sound? It all really propelled me to invest time into music production. “Deadmau5, Skrillex, Feed Me, electro-house era Porter Robinson and Bonobo are my inspirations. You can spend all the time you want chasing a perfect mixdown, but the exact opposite is true in regards to the initial inspiration you get from creating a new idea. Obviously there are songs that take longer than others, but I believe the best ideas come together the fastest. Half of the ideas I write are either in my head already, or I'll hear a sound/sample then immediately think ‘yup, this is the song’ and go from there.
It was one of those ideas that came together really quickly after I came up with the bass line.
